Oct 23.2009 - At Sea DKP: Once we set sail from Sicily, seemingly on our way to Barcelona, a fairly fierce early winter storm reared up on our way to round the volcano known as Stromboli. We pitched and rolled throughout the night, the bow crashing down occassionaly on a rogue wave. I actually sleep really well in these conditions and after a late night in Crew Bar, it worked for me. The dawn brought more of the same, even rougher in fact and then the annoucement came... to minimize strain on the passengers, the ship and her inventory, we would be skipping Barcelona and instead head North around the eastern side of Sardegna to take shelter from the 25 ft swells and high winds. A huge dissappointment by the crew and passengers but a good call by the Captain, this is a good example of when it's good NOT to lead by consensus :-) |
